This infrared thermometer measures temperature by detecting a fraction of the thermal radiation released by the item being measured, also known as black-body radiation. An infrared thermometer is primarily used to measure a subject’s temperature from a distance. The most basic architecture of the SMART SENSOR Infrared Thermometer (AS530) comprises of a lens that directs infrared (IR) radiation to a detector, which transforms the energy to an electrical signal that may be displayed in temperature units after being corrected for ambient temperature variations.
